Quartzite

Quartzite is a dense natural stone that makes a showstopper out of any project in your home. Whether indoors or out, quartzite lends its easy maintenance, high durability, and exceptionally beautiful patterning to kitchen counters, floors, and fireplaces.

Quartzite is known for its distinctive look, which falls between the granular appearance of granite and the veining of marble. Because it is one of the hardest natural stones, it will last for decades with proper care. After regular use, the quartzite surface will develop its own unique patina and personality. This is one of the natural characteristics of quartzite stones.

  • Quartzite is a metamorphic rock created when sandstone undergoes extreme heat and pressure deep underground. Quartzite is hard and durable with a Mohs hardness rating of 7, higher than granite.

  • Quartzite makes a statement piece out of any surface and is a more expensive natural stone. Quartzite is hard, durable, and uniquely patterned making it the ideal choice for:

    Kitchen countertops

    Full wall backsplashes

    Bathroom vanities and countertops

    Shower walls

    Floors

Outdoor applications (kitchens, fireplaces, patios, paths)

    Curbs and thresholds

    Fireplace hearths and surrounds

    Custom furniture pieces and tops

  • Clients that choose quartzite need to know that there is a flaw that occurs with light colored quartzite that is currently an unsolvable issue in the stone industry. For unknown reasons, several white and light-colored quartzites will darken at the edges of the countertops. It is unknown why this happens or how to prevent it. There is also no way to remove the discoloration in the quartzite.

Any client that chooses quartzite needs to know that this discoloration may occur before or after installation. There is nothing Creative Stone can do to remove this discoloration and Creative Stone will not be responsible for attempting to remove or repair the discoloration nor will they be responsible for replacing the quartzite.

Our sales team can show you quartzite slabs where this discoloration is less likely.

  • Use cleaning products designed specifically for natural stone. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or acidic/alkaline cleaning products (think lemon, vinegar, bleach, ammonia) as these can etch or scratch the surface. Read our Quartzite Disclaimer for more care information.

  • Clients need to be aware that there is always a possibility of scratching and staining. Any spills should be immediately cleaned up to try and avoid staining. Using coasters and cleaning up spills immediately will help preserve the beauty of your stone.

Quartzite should be sealed every year with a coating of a quality sealant to maintain its durability. Learn more about our stone restoration services and read our Quartzite Disclaimer for more care information.

  • Always use a trivet or hot pad between your quartzite surface and any heat-generating device including but not limited to crock pots, deep fryers, hot pots and pans, or electric skillets. Sudden or rapid change of temperature or sustained heating, especially near edges and cut outs, may create enough thermal expansion energy to cause your countertop to crack.

Be mindful of not pouring boiling water onto any stone surface.
